Huge blaze rips through pub

Stratford Editorial 25th Aug, 2017   0

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a huge blaze at a derelict Warwick pub.

Crews received nearly 20 calls about a fire at the Great Western Pub on Coventry Road.

The fire began at around 4.30pm on Thursday but emergency services were at the scene for most of the night after flames engulfed the entire building.

Part of the former pub had also collapsed, meaning the fire could only be tackled from outside.

A diversion was set up, with people instead having to drive past the hospital while crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

A spokesman from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire engines were initially mobilised, one from Leamington and one from Kenilworth. On arrival of the first crew a message was received stating that the building was one hundred percent involved in fire and two further crews were requested.”
