Illegal immigrants jump off lorry in Stratford

FIVE illegal immigrants were discovered on a lorry delivering health and beauty products to a Stratford firm.

A lorry was delivering health and beauty products to Stratford-upon-Avon based DCS Group and when it arrived a man sliced the trailer curtains open with a knife.

A hole was sliced in the trailer curtains of the lorry after it arrived at the DCS Group’s Timothy’s Bridge Road base. They made a run for it but were picked up by police further down the road. Officers also found two women still inside the lorry.

DCS chairman Denys Shortt said: ““We receive many trucks from abroad each day and it was only a matter of time before such an incident would happen.”

“We are very grateful to Warwickshire Police for responding so quickly and handling the situation brilliantly.”

“It was quite a shocking experience for our staff although there was no threatening behaviour from the migrants.”

“The goods have been sent back to the supplier and will be destroyed.”

“Clearly this is an issue affecting businesses all over the UK and Europe. We have now experienced it first hand.”

Police are expected to hand the five over to Border Control.

Two migrants were picked-up in Napton near Southam last week after smuggling aboard a boat which was towed by the owner from Calais to Warwickshire.
