THE STREETS of Leamington are paved with code according to a new exhibition.

A history of gaming in Leamington is the subject of the temporary exhibition at Leamington Art Gallery and Museum.

Leamington, also known as “Silicon Spa” is home to a vibrant gaming development population.

Running until May 3, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey back to the mid 1980’s and up to the present day where the scene continues to grow and thrive.

More people than ever play video games, whether casually on their smartphone or as an immersive, social experience. But few people realise that here in Leamington they are surrounded by games developers who have helped to shape the life of the town for more than 30 years.

Leamington is the centre of one of the oldest and largest clusters of video games companies in the UK, making a significant impact on the global stage and employing some 2,500 people. They work in all kinds of roles, from concept art to coding, and sound design to community engagement.

This exhibition will trace the history of the gaming industry in Leamington and the surrounding area and give a glimpse into the working lives of games developers.

Visitors of all ages can also try their hand at designing a video game.

Curator Lily Crowther said: “It’s been fascinating to see inside the video games industry, which most people in Leamington don’t even know is here – hopefully the exhibition will help demystify it.”
