Locals at loggerheads over Bidford holiday home plans

NEIGHBOURS are at loggerheads over plans to build holiday homes in Bidford.

Owners of Bidford Grange Golf Club on Stratford Road have applied to build 70 timber lodges on part of the golf course.

The application also seeks permission to build a gym, treatment room, children’s play area and games pitch along with 155 parking spaces. They say it would create nearly 40 new jobs for local residents.

Some neighbours have supported the plans and say it is a coup for Bidford.

Barbara Connor said: “I believe something like this would bring Bidford back to life. A complex like this will bring business back to the village. I have lived here for 33 years and feel it needs a boost.”

And Laura Withers backed her sentiments.

She said: “I have lived here since birth and watched the village have less and less to offer visitors and locals alike. I feel providing an ‘attraction’ and accommodation near to our village would be a great asset for local shops and businesses.”

But while some neighbours feel the development would improve the village some say it is a bad idea and would increase noise and traffic.

Neil Green said: “The number of people this will entail will cause so much noise pollution it is unreal. It will totally spoil the area. The river banks will become busy with lots of people and this development is just totally unreasonable. “

Another comment opposing the development said: “The application is excessive and in its present form will result in substantial traffic movement. Given that the entrance is directly opposite a nursery this will create a worrying traffic hazard on a busy road.”
