Storm fears prompt job fair axe at this year's mop

Stratford Editorial 7th Oct, 2018 Updated: 11th Oct, 2018   0

THE JOB market set to be held at this year’s mop fair has been cancelled due to strong winds predicted from Storm Callum.

The fair itself will still go ahead in Stratford town centre today (Thursday), between 4pm and 11pm, and tomorrow from 11am until midnight.

The fair was set to go back to its roots by holding a jobs market for the first time in around 100 years.

The mop – which began in 1544 – was historically held for employees to hire those looking for work, alongside a fairground.

Those without a trade were encouraged to bring a mop to indicate they needed work.

Now the fair is more well-known for its rides and charity pig roast auction.
