Mum to run for hospice caring for friend's husband

A MUM of three is appealing for support as she takes on the Stratford Half Marathon on May 13.

Maxi Woodfield is hoping to raise £200 for the Shakespeare Hospice, which is currently caring for her friend’s husband.

The Alcester resident was spurred into action when work colleague at Rotary International Jean Suitor was told her husband Paul’s cancer had returned. Paul is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 Melanoma in an effort to buy him more time in his battle with the disease.

Maxi was full of praise for the care Paul was receiving.

“I do not know how they do it. The staff at the hospice are absolutely marvellous.

“And it’s not just the patient, but their family as well. They give so much and are a superb charity to support.

“Paul has been attending the Shakespeare Hospice on a regular basis for therapy and counselling.

“I would like to give something back and raise some money for the amazing things the hospice does for Paul and other people in his position.”

Her training has been going on apace with lunchtime and weekend runs as the mileage ramps up close to the 13 mile half marathon distance.

“I really hope people will sponsor me and help this cause which relies on donations from people like you and me to keep providing a service which includes Children and Family Support, Bereavement Support, Counselling, Chaplaincy and Social Work,” said Maxi.
