People encouraged to share car journeys to cut congestion

COMMUTERS are being encouraged to cut down on their carbon footprint and congestion on Warwickshire’s roads by sharing lifts.

With the average car in Britain clocking 7,900 miles each year, Warwickshire County Council has teamed-up with Liftshare to

encourage people to share car journeys. The Liftshare website allows people to buddy up for lifts.

The scheme is already proving successful in Warwickshire with big firms including Jaguar Land Rover and Oscada signing up.

JLR has more than 8,000 members across three sites, and more than 4,000 employees are now sharing lifts into work – saving over 20million miles and an estimated £5million.

Coun Peter Butlin, deputy leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are really keen for residents to join as the benefits both to the individual and to the region are extensive.

“I urge as many Warwickshire’s residents as possible to make joining the scheme their New Year’s resolution.”
