Plans for 350 homes and new medical centre in Wellesbourne given go-ahead

A NEW state-of-the-art medical centre and 350 homes are set to be built in Wellesbourne.

The plans divided residents of the village when they were first tabled by Persimmon Homes back in December.

The developer was looking to build the homes either side of Ettington Road on land owned by the Walton Estate and, as part of a separate application linked to the homes, a £4million medical centre on a site in Bridge Street – known locally as Dog Close.

The majority supported the medical centre plans – arguing the existing centre, Hastings House, was already at full capacity – but there were concerns about how the cost of the new centre would be met.

Fears were also raised the levels of housing would have a negative impact on the village’s character with some 30 letters of objection being penned to Stratford District Council.

But despite this, councillors followed officers’ advice by granting both applications – subject to a number of conditions and a Section 106 agreement – at a planning meeting on Wednesday (July 22).
