THE NEAR extinction of a bird of prey will the subject of a talk in Stratford.
The Hen Harrier Day, at Stratford Cricket Club on Sunday August 12, will raise awareness of the plight of the birds which have faced decades of persecution.
Intensively managed grouse moors and the illegal killing of birds of prey have caused the population to dwindle.
RSPB spokesperson Emma Marsh said: “ Here in the Midlands I dream of seeing hen harriers skydancing across our uplands once more.
“This Hen Harrier Day event is an opportunity for people to call for the return of the hen harrier to the skies over the Midlands, and indeed the whole of the UK, securing their future for generations to come.”
Emma will be among other speakers at the event including Emmerdale actor and wildlife fan Nick Miles, former Green Party leader Natalie Bennett and writer and broadcaster David Lindo, aka The Urban Birder.
