Pride protesters hit out at further abuse following equality rally

Stratford Editorial 25th Apr, 2018   0

PRIDE protesters have hit out at further abuse received following an equality rally against hate crime in Stratford.

Warwickshire Pride – which supports members of the lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community – organised the rally at the weekend after volunteers were forced to close down an information stall at Stratford Market last month after receiving a torrent of abuse from passersby.

Chair Daniel Browne said he knew of three incidents of verbal abuse which took place after the rally at the Recreation Ground on Saturday. One of those victimised was a teenager who was said to be shaken up by the insults.

Mr Browne added the incidents highlighted the importance of pride events and said they would not give up the fight against such abuse.

The charity has branches across the UK and runs a range of support services and social activities for LGBT people.

The annual Warwickshire Pride festival takes place in Leamington in August.
