Rubbish Friends keeping the district spic and span

Stratford Editorial 4th Apr, 2019   0

RUBBISH Friends had another busy weekend helping keep the district spic and span.

The community clean up group filled 11 sacks of rubbish from a ditch on the Birmingham Road on Friday, and the following day, with the help of scouts, collected 66 further sacks of rubbish in Old Town, Shottery, Ettington, Newbold, and Tiddington.

And if that was not enough there were out again around Birmingham Road, Clopton Road and the canal to fill another 44 sacks.

Rubbish Friends also continues campaigning to protect the environment, including trying to convince more businesses and customers to say no to single use plastic straws.

And the group is also backing a reverse vending machine scheme, from which 38 countries already benefit, to reduce the amount of cans and bottles dumped across the district. A deposit of 10p would be placed on cans and bottles which people could reclaim when they recycle them. They had a machine at a litter pick last autumn where 1,800 cans and bottles were deposited.

Search Rubbish Friends (Stratford Upon Avon) on Facebook for further details and to get involved.
