Shakespeare's Hospice dragon boat race to pay tribute to NHS

A SPECIAL addition to the Shakespeare Hospice’s dragon boat fleet will be paying tribute to the NHS in its upcoming fund-raiser.

The boat, which has been designed to offer a thank you to the health service during the pandemic, has been donated by the Dragon Boat Race organisers. It is also a way to offer free places for healthcare workers to take part in the event on September 19.

Chief executive of Dragon Boat Events, Chris Dodimead, said: “The idea to offer an NHS team entry came from our complete admiration of the incredible work from everyone in the NHS.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has been one of the darkest times the country has seen but one shining light throughout has been the amazing and relentless work of the NHS.

“We are so very lucky to have a national health service and are very aware of the strain that the virus has put on the NHS and importantly its staff.

“We would like to recognise their work and our gratitude in the best way we know how, and that is by working with our event partners to offer them a day at one of our incredible events where they will be welcomed and treated like the heroes they are.”

Potential NHS crew members can email [email protected] to secure a place.
