Shoeboxes full of treats to be donated to Warwickshire families in need

SHOEBOXES full of festive treats are set to be donated to families in need.

After hearing about gifts being donated to children across the world, a group from Southam realised there was no facility to help those closer to home.

And the community, including local schools, were more than happy to help – donating some 250 shoeboxes in a matter of weeks.

These were collected at Southam fire station and will now be distributed by foodbank volunteers.

A spokeswoman told the Observer: “We know from staff at the foodbank that every single thing we collect is used.

“People handed in beautifully wrapped boxes for children and for adults, with the essentials they so badly need and a few treats for Christmas as well.

“We cannot thank the people of Southam and the surrounding villages enough. This is a great example of a local community pulling together to help those in need.”
