Sisters to pedal 60 miles in honour of cycle-loving father.

SISTERS are getting on their bike in honour of their cycle-loving father.

Gillian Blundell, 37, from Kenilworth, and Heather Wright, 40, from Berkshire, are preparing to ride 60 miles in the Pedal for Parkinson’s fundraiser in Stratford on June 1.

They have set a target of £750 which will go help fund research into the disease which affects nearly 30,000 people in the UK – including their father.

Gillian said: “Dad was a big cyclist all his life until Parkinson’s made his balance too bad to carry on. And so was our mum who cares for him – in fact they met in a cycling club so it feels very appropriate that we’re raising money by cycling.

“We’re looking forward to taking up a challenge and hopefully getting to the finish line! It will mean a great deal to us to raise as much money as we can to help anyone affected by Parkinson’s.

“We are also raising money to help Parkinson’s UK support carers of people with Parkinson’s such as our mum.”

The annual cycle event hosted by Parkinson’s UK will see more than 200 cyclists tackle a choice of three routes between 20 and 60 miles.

The charity hopes to reach its target of £10,000 and has set participants a goal of £100 each.

Refreshments and leg massages are provided for cyclists, and family games for those supporting.

The registration fee is £25 (£10 for juniors under 16).
