A SNAP-happy resident has won a competition which called for locals to take pictures of the town during lockdown walks.

Retirement community developer McCarthy Stone asked for pictures of scenery, wildlife and landscapes in the town and its surrounding areas.

The competition was judged by Stratford mayor Tony Jackson who selected Russell Hirst’s picture titled ‘Taken on the Avon’ as the winner. It will now be printed and displayed in the lounge at the Harvard Place development.

Russell, who was awarded £250 for his photograph, said: “While my walks have been restricted to around Stratford, I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place, with so many scenic views along the river to enjoy. I have always really enjoyed taking photos and this particular photo of the Avon is a favourite of mine.”

Town mayor Tony Jackson added: “The standard of all the entries was phenomenal and is a real testament to the talented amateur photographers around Stratford, I certainly had a tough decision to make.

“I chose Russell’s image as the winner because I felt it captured the beauty of the Avon’s magnificent scenery, as well as the iconic RST.”
