Stratford District Council to explain vote registration changes

Stratford Editorial 21st Aug, 2014 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

CHANGES to how people register to vote have been introduced.

Under the new system each individual must ensure they are signed-up to vote – replacing the old system where the ‘head of household’ registered everyone living in their home.

Stratford District Council will be writing to residents explaining the changes. Information ‘tags’ will also be attached to wheelie bins over the coming weeks.

Darren Whitney, democratic services manager, said: “Most people will not notice the change as the current register will be matched against other public databases and if you have been matched, you will receive a confirmation letter in August.

“However, if your records do not match, you will receive a letter asking you to complete the new individual form.”

The changes are designed to reduce the risk of fraud and guarantee everyone entitled to vote can do so.
