Stratford landlords called on to support Syrian refugees

Stratford Editorial 22nd Jun, 2017   0

SYRIAN refugees are set to move to Stratford, and local landlords are being asked to help.

The town has been earmarked to take in 12 refugee families under government’s Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement Scheme.

The families – who will move in by September – will be helped by support workers and interpreters to find their way around the area and enroll children in school.

They will stop in private rented accommodation, and now Stratford District Council is calling for local landlords to contact them if they have a private property to let.

Funding is available to cover two months before a family moves in and landlords will receive council support throughout the tenancy.

Spokesman for housing, coun Peter Richards said: “The district council is pleased to be able to offer support for these families following such difficult and uncertain times.

“I would encourage any local landlords interested in having their accommodation considered for the refugee accommodation scheme to come forward and support this work.”
