Stratford Racecourse music festival decision expected next week

Stratford Editorial 30th Jan, 2020 Updated: 30th Jan, 2020   0

A DECISION on controversial plans to stage a music festival for up to 10,000 revellers at Stratford Racecourse is set to be made next week.

GB Holdings UK has submitted an application to host a three day ‘Stratford Tribute Festival’ – featuring tribute acts from across the UK – at the Luddington Road racecourse in August.

But it has prompted concerns from neighbours over potential crime, traffic and noise.

Stratford District Council’s licensing panel considered the application for the event, to be held in the centre of the racecourse, on Wednesday. A final decision is expected next week.

But some residents have objected concerned it could encourage crime, bring congestion and create excessive noise.

One resident wrote: “The road system at the junction of Evesham Road, Luddington Road and the surrounding network will struggle to accommodate the vehicles to transport 9,999 people, plus all the support vehicles and and deliveries to supply and service the festival.

“The local residents will have to tolerate the music at very high volumes all weekend. Stratford Racecourse is the wrong location to hold a music festival because it’s too close to residential property.

“There is plenty of evidence from other music festivals across the country that they create a mini crime wave including drug dealing.”

Another added it did not ‘take a genius’ to know there would be a ‘substantial rise in crime and disorder’.

District council environmental health says the applicant had not provided enough details relating to noise and also objected to the plans.

Applicant GB Holdings UK has declined to comment until the licensing panel had made its decision.
