STUDENTS from Stratford have danced their way onto the stage at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Stratford upon Avon School students Sophie Stickney and Rubi Russell joined the Motionhouse Dance Company recently to perform the company’s piece entitled ‘Nobody’.

The young women had been selected from in-house auditions to be part of a six-person group attending the Motionhouse auditions in Birmingham. There were among over 50 dancers auditioning from across the West Midlands – with Sophie and Rubi two of the final 15 selected.

They said: “It was a really good experience. We got to dance with people we had never met before and had to quickly learn the choreography and how to work as a team.”

The opportunity came about after their teacher, Adele Thomas, contacted the Hippodrome to see what opportunities were available for her students. The dancers attended full-day rehearsals every weekend in January to be part of the creation.

Ms Thomas added: “The Stratford-upon-Avon School dancers commanded the stage, performing with confidence beyond their years while fully embodying the unique style of Motionhouse Dance Company.”
