STRATFORD Town Trust has decided to sell a house on Benson Road which was the centre of controversial plans to build new homes.
The trust spent £615,000 buying the property and surrounding land in January 2013 as a potential access route to Rowley Fields.
The trust was hoping to develop a 1.5acre parcel of land behind 7 Benson Road – which the trust purchased for £500,000 in 2014 – and build five new homes.
But members of Stratford District Council’s planning committee refused planning permission.
Following a survey of members, the trust board has decided to sell the property at 7 Benson Road.
And they have also endorsed plans for the land to the rear to become open space as part of Rowley Fields.
Justin Williams, Chief Executive of Stratford Town Trust, said: “The Board of Trustees has listened and now acted following input from the community and its membership.
“The town trust would again like to thank all those who took the time to provide their opinion in the survey. We look forward to engaging with our membership further in the new year.”
The property will be put up for sale early next year.
