Swimmers urged to take the plunge for charity

SWIMMERS in the district are being urged to take the plunge for charity.

Leisure centres in Straford, Shipston, and Southam, operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Stratford District Council, are encouraging people to take on the Aspire Channel Swim in their pool to raise vital funds for Spinal Cord Injury charity Aspire.

The 12 week challenge involves participants swimming 22 miles – the distance of the English Channel – in their local pools in their own time to raise money for Aspire and people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury.

The Aspire Channel Swim runs from September 11 to December 4. Last year, Aspire Channel Swimmers raised over £580,000 to support Aspire’s services – from housing services to grants.

Gareth Wagg, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “As the UK’s longest established leisure operator, we are committed to encourage the local community to lead healthier, more active lifestyles. I would encourage anyone who is looking to improve their fitness to take on this challenge. It is a great opportunity to get active at the same time as raising money for a brilliant cause.”
