THEY say talk is cheap – but it certainly proved costly for Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi.
MP expenses have been published, and it was revealed Mr Zahawi spent between £100 and £430 on his monthly BT phone bills – one of his highest claims.
By comparison, the maximum claimed for a phone bill by Kenilworth and Southam MP Jeremy Wright was around £15.
A spokesman for Mr Zahawi said the MP had now changed his provider in a bid to slash costs.
He said: “Nadhim accepts that some of last year’s phone bills were too high.
“When it came to his attention, he looked to change supplier and did so. His phone bills are now much lower. “
The rest of Mr Zahawi’s costs were relatively low, with him claiming nearly £17,500 in expenses between October 2015 and September 2016. Neighbouring MPs claimed around £40,000 in that period.
