Talks to reveal history of medieval guild chapel

Stratford Editorial 3rd Apr, 2018   0

THE HISTORY of Stratford’s Guild Chapel and its medieval paintings will be revealed in a series of talks.

Talks will take place on the first Tuesday and third Saturday of every month, between April and September, with the first one on April 3, at 11am.

The chapel’s history dates back to 1269. Its wall paintings were only recently revealed after being limewashed on orders given to Shakespeare’s father John after the English Reformation in the 16th century.

Coordinator Pippa Brook said: “For anyone wanting to delve a little deeper and discover a little more, these talks will be regular, free and open to all. We are fortunate to have a wonderful army of volunteers helping to share the chapel’s secrets and these talks will be led by them; people incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what we have here. We can’t thank them enough.”
