Thousands sign Cody's Law petition following footballer's death

THOUSANDS have already signed a petition aimed at making going out safer following the killing of Stratford footballer Cody Fisher.

The petition Cody’s Law seeks to make metal detectors and bleed kits a lawful requirement for clubs and event venues.

It comes after the 23-year-old, from Studley, was stabbed to death on the dancefloor of The Crane nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

And Stratford Town FC, who Cody last played for, have launched the Cody Fisher Community Fund in his memory, to help youngsters become qualified coaches and referees.

The club have also retired the number 23 shirt worn by Cody. Former professional player and ex-Premier League manager Ian Holloway attended an emotional ceremony to mark the occasion at the clubs Knights Lane ground. The shirt was also blessed by the Revered Jon Martin.


Two men charged with Cody’s murder will stand trial in July.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court last week, where they were remanded in custody until March 17 when they will enter a plea. A four-week trial has provisionally been set to start on July 3.

Carpenter, of no fixed address, and Gordon, of Cofton Park Drive, Birmingham, were charged with murder and affray following Mr Fisher’s death at the Digbeth nightclub.

A post-mortem examination confirmed school sports coach Mr Fisher died of a stab wound.

Keen footballer Mr Fisher played left-back for a number of non league sides in the midlands, most recently for Stratford Town, for who he made 54 appearances, although injury had prevented him turning out this season.
