Time to go flipping crazy at Alcester Pancake Races

Stratford Editorial 21st Feb, 2020   0

THERE will be flippin’ great fun next Tuesday when the annual Court Leet pancake races take place on Alcester High Street.

The Shrove Tuesday tradition – started in Olney in Oxfordshire in the 14th century by a lady parishioner late for mass – will see a good pancake mixture of school children, pub relays and everyone who fancies a go taking part in the event.

First under starters orders will be the Pub Relay at noon, followed at 12.15pm by the Works Relay, 12.30pm Nurseries and Schools, 1pm, the Women’s Race followed by the Men’s Race.

From 1.15pm races for anyone else who wants to take part – parents, grandparents, businesses, sports clubs, toddler groups, and even fancy dress.

Marc Venables from the Court Leet said: “Timings are approximate, please show up ten minutes prior to racing at the church gates for briefing and instructions.”
