TONIGHT’S performance of Wendy & Peter Pan at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre has been cancelled due to “technical problems.”
The show had to be stopped in the second half on Saturday (December 12) and the RSC has since posted a message on its website to inform people of tonight’s (Tuesday) cancellation.
RSC Executive Director, Catherine Mallyon, said: “During the second half of the evening performance of Wendy & Peter Pan on Saturday, Rhys Rusbatch, who plays Peter Pan, fell through a trap in the stage floor.
“Rhys sustained some bruising, but was otherwise unhurt and we stopped the show as a consequence, continuing once we were confident stage and company were safe.”
She added the company had been on a scheduled two day break since and were not due back at the theatre until Tuesday (December 15), when they would be briefed on the new arrangements.
“We are sorry we have cancelled tonight’s performance and appreciate the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause.
“We take the health and safety of staff, company members and audiences very seriously.
“Our Health and Safety team is currently undertaking a full investigation into what happened, and has made the necessary adjustments to the staging to ensure the incident does not happen again.”
Anyone who has booked tickets for tonight’s performance is advised to call the box office on 01789 403493 where they will be offered either a full refund or an exchange to a future performance.
Performances are due to resume tomorrow (Wednesday).
