Tradition meets tech as Stratford artists go digital

Stratford Editorial 3rd Oct, 2020   0

THE PANDEMIC has not kept Stratford artists from their craft.

Members of Stratford upon Avon Art Society have been staying connected online as they share their techniques and work with each other on screen.

The group, which usually meets monthly at Stratford College, was unable to hold its annual art exhibition at King Edward IV School. But their online efforts will hopefully form a ‘bumper’ exhibition next summer.

A spokeswoman said: “The Zoom format allows members’ questions to be asked directly to the artist during the actual demonstration so it’s very interactive and also replicates, to a small extent, the camaraderie of like minded members, so very much missed during this period of social distancing. All this effort will hopefully culminate in a bumper exhibition next summer when visitors will once again be able to admire and buy fabulous paintings at affordable prices.”

The use of mediums from oil painting and charcoal, to watercolour washes, have been demonstrated on camera through a variety of techniques and paintings since lockdown began.

The next session will be Thursday October 8 when Peter Keegan will be demonstrating colour theory before producing a garden painting in acrylics.
