Tramway Bridge could be re-lit at cost of £90,000

THE TRAMWAY Bridge could be re-lit at a cost of £90,000.

A scheme of feature lighting was installed on the historic bridge in 2010 as part of the World Class Stratford initiative.

But the £138,000 lighting feature has been dogged with problems and despite efforts to fix them they still do not work properly.

And the company which installed them has now refused to carry out any more work to get the feature lights working again.

It has prompted Stratford District Council to consider stripping them out and replacing them as per the original design with programmable coloured lighting. That would cost around £84,000 together with £6,000 strip-out costs.

Council chiefs are also set to consider simpler and cheaper options when the Cabinet meets on Monday (November 30).

They also have the option of doing nothing and leaving the grade II Listed bridge which has spanned the Avon since 1826.
