Warning over illegal swimmers in the Avon

Stratford Editorial 26th Jul, 2021   0

BOATERS are being urged to look out for people swimming illegally in the River Avon.

The Avon Navigation Trust says soaring temperatures have seen swimmers at various locations along the navigation channels.

The organisation is warning people that swimming in locks or lock cuts is a criminal offence, and anyone seen doing this should be reported to police.

Boaters are advised to keep a lookout for swimmers, proceed slowly and stop the propeller if a swimmer is near to the boat.

Swimming in the following locations has been reported in Stratford, upstream of Clopton Bridge next to the visitors car park, and in Bidford next to the bridge. Places outside the district include Offenham Lock, Harvington Lock, Evesham Waterside, Eckington Bridge, Bredon and Tewkesbury near to the Avon Lock.
