Warwickshire musicians come together to raise money

A CONCERT at Warwick Castle raised £1,600 for children in the care of Warwickshire County Council.

The event, which was held in the Great Hall, featured a variety of music performed by young people from various ensembles around the county – the County Girls’ Choir, viol consort Gutted! and County Waits.

Funds were raised for Warwickshire’s Tiffin Club which supports children and young people in the care of the council.

County council leader Coun Izzi Seccombe said: “It was fantastic to see so many people coming out to support the Warwickshire Tiffin Club and enjoying performances from such talented ensembles from around Warwickshire.

“On behalf of all at Warwickshire County Council, I would like to extend great thanks to everyone who supported this event, making it the fantastic success that it was!

“A very special thanks goes to Warwick Castle, our hosts for the evening who graciously waived their room hire fee, and also to all the local businesses who donated prizes to the raffle.”

Coun Richard Cattaway added: “The Tiffin Club does brilliant work supporting our looked after children in the county to ensure they have the same opportunities as all children in Warwickshire.

“All of Warwickshire’s senior officers and elected members fulfil the role of corporate parents to our looked after children, which is something we are very proud of.”

* YOUNG people leaving care will receive a helping hand from Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs thanks to a £75,000 grant.

The money from the Lloyds Bank Foundation will fund three years of salary for two youth workers who will work to support care leavers.

WAYC chief executive William Clemmey said: “Too many young people leave residential or foster care ill-prepared for adult life. Emotional problems and disrupted education lead to social isolation and difficulties with finding work.

“Thanks to this grant our youth workers will support care-leavers to gain confidence, skills and practical work-related experiences. We will offer long-term support, helping care-leavers overcome barriers, achieve at college and find work, and live fulfilling independent lives.”
