A TALENTED Warwickshire teenager has been signed as the number one padel tennis player for sportswear giant Adidas.
Tia Norton took up the sport – a hybrid of tennis and squash played on an enclosed court – just two years ago. The game is big in Spain and Hispanic America but is becoming increasingly popular across Europe.
The 13 year-old from Leamington trains four times a week at a club in Birmingham. She recently competed in London and Barcelona and will be playing in Australia later this month.
After impressing on the international circuit – where she plays in adult tournaments – she has now been snapped up by Adidas as their top female player.
Tia said: “To play Padel Tennis you need to master all the angles of the walls. The game is fast and fun – having quick reactions and good control of your shots is as important as the smash.”
And Myton School are incredibly proud of their international player.
Head of Girls’ PE, Rachel Cole, said: “Tia is a superstar and deserves all the success that comes her way. She is a real inspiration to others, combining her considerable talent with hard work and dedication.”
