All set for Sports Awards

THE STRATFORD District Community Sports Awards evening organised by the district council will take place on Friday, January 17.

The event is organised in partnership with Everyone Active and will take place at Stratford Play House, where the ceremony will be hosted by former athlete Iwan Thomas MBE.

The judges have met and a shortlist of finalists has been chosen as follows:

Junior Para-sports Person: Sophie Evans-Lee – Riding for the Disabled; Kyle Jackson – wheelchair basketball; Lewis Tandy – Riding for the Disabled.




Senior Para-sports Person: Dan Gill – wheelchair basketball; Kathryn Tandy – Riding for the Disabled.

Junior Team: Alcester Grammar School U 14 girls’ hockey; Henley Tennis Club juniors; Stratford AC U15 track & field.


Senior Team: Stratford Cricket Club; Stratford Town Football Club; Stratford Hockey Club men’s 1st XI.

Coach/PE Teacher: Tom Abbott – cycling; Samuel Evans – kayaking; Lee Johnson – boxing; Kim Mortimer – swimming; Chelsea Mansell – multi-sports.

Community Club: Bears Wheelchair Basketball Club; Kineton Sports & Social Club; Stratford Kayaks; Stratford Town Colts FC; Stratford Town FC.

Unsung Hero: Steve Allen – football; Amy Hollingum – football; Jemma Moore – netball; Dave Petty – squash; Charlie Rawlings – swimming.

Getting Stratford-on-Avon Active: Kathrin Foster – Nordic walking; Hayley Noel – multi-sports; Kevin Taylor – table tennis; Stratford-upon-Avon parkruns; Stratford AC – Couch to 5k; Paula Williams – netball.

Junior Sports Person: Alex Adams – athletics; Demi Barnett – Tae Kwon-Do; Sky Barnett – Tae Kwon-Do; Lewis Byng – athletics; Freddie Clemons – athletics; Joshua Mitchell – modern pentathlon.

Senior Sports Person: Maria Giordmaina – bodybuilding; Georgina Mitchell – modern pentathlon.

Outstanding Contribution: Mathew Pickering – boxing; David Taylor – football; Martine Verweij – athletics.
