Alveston juniors in four-midable form

ALVESTON Juniors U13s tennis team collected their fourth successive title at the weekend, writes Amy Flynn.

The team started off slowly in their first match with two close losses in the girls singles (21-20 and 21-18), which left them drawing 3-3 with Coventry’s Jubilee Juniors.

However, the team rallied and swept through without dropping another game to triumph 7-3.

Alveston’s anxious coach Chris Osborne said: “We made life difficult for ourselves at times, but were able to finish strongly. It was far from plain sailing and there were more than a few tense moments before I could relax and enjoy the victory!”

Alveston then flourished in their second match and beat another Coventry club, Racqueteers, by the maximum 10-0 scoreline.

Finally they faced Rugby Youth and with two games to go the teams were locked at 4-4. Again a nervous coach watched on as both final Alveston pairings won their game to finish 6-4 winners and claim their gold medals.

Alveston meet every Tuesday at King Edward VI School in Stratford and, unlike many clubs, play all through the year. New players looking to take up the sport or those looking for coaching to build on existing skills should contact Chris on 01789 842664 or e-mail [email protected] for more details.
