ATHLETICS - Stratford athletes help Midland Masters team triumph in Inter-Area Challenge

STRATFORD athletes helped the Midland Masters team triumph at the England Masters AA Inter-Area Challenge in Nuneaton.

SAC’s Paula Williams produced a stellar performance in the shot put with a British V50 record of 13.25m before then throwing a championship best 35.93m in the javelin.

She also claimed first place in the W50 80m hurdles before also coming home first as part of the winning W50 4x100m relay team in 58.68 seconds.

And Elaine Ledden also enjoyed relay success as part of the W60 4x100m team, coming home first in 62.11 secs whilst placing second in the W60 400m in 77.73 secs.




SAC’s final relay contribution came from Dave Wilson who helped the M50 4x100m team to first place in 51.25 secs having set a personal best of 4.61m in the long jump.

Paul Hawkins completed the SAC team and finished the M65 2000m walk in 14:01:37.


The Midland Masters women’s team won overall with 309 points, ahead of Welsh Masters on 213 whilst the men’s team were second behind Northern Masters but the Midland Masters won overall with 602 points – almost 100 points ahead of their closest challengers.

Stratford athletes were out in force at the Compton Verney Sprint Triathlon which included a 400-metre lake swim, 23.5k bike ride and a 5k cross country run.

Results are as follows:  David Teasdale (7th, 2nd in category, 1:13:10), Charly Marshall (13th, 2nd in category, 1:15:13), Emma Bexson (14th, 1st in category, 1:17:00), Jamie Hall (24th, 1:21:25), Will Dyche (33rd, 1:25:10), Nick Cooper (54th, 1:27:58), Suzanne Ross (61st, 1:32:00), Sarah Odell (64th, 2nd in category, 1:32:31), Karl Harris (77th, 1:35:33), Dave Fathers (94th, 1:39:51), Brian Weetman (99th, 1:41:54), Sam Thirlaway (167th, 2:10:01). SAC member Joe Lee took part as part of the winning relay team.

And four Stratford athletes took part in the Tri 4 Ukraine race, organised by Tewkesbury Triathlon Club at Croft Farm Water Park, to raise money in order to rebuild grassroots sport in Ukraine once the war is over.

The event consisted of a 750-metre swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run as SAC ‘s Dave Teasdale (8th, 1:07:23), Sarah Odell (2nd in age group 1:21:25), Simon Taylor (1:25:53) all finished.

However, after suffering an unfortunate fall off her bike in T2, Caroline Gionis was unable to complete the run.
