STRATFORD-upon-Avon Athletic Club athletes Seb Hillard and Will Hovell represented Warwickshire at the English Schools (ESAA) Midlands Combined Events Championships.
Hillard (under-17) and Hovell (under-15) headed to Moorways Stadium in Derby after earning their respective places on the county team.
Every Stratford youngster from under-11 through to under-15 attempts all running, throwing and jumping events with combined events the backbone of the club’s junior training programme.
And Hovell was competing in the five-event pentathlon with Hillard in the eight-event octathlon over two days of action.
Both athletes produced outstanding performances to help Warwickshire to a second place finish overall with Hillard fifth and Hovell sixth in their respective events.
Hillard set new personal best’s (PB’s) in long jump, discus and javelin and then ran his first sub 60-second time in the 400m.
And further PB’s would follow competing in the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 1,500m to finish on a total of 3,461 points – a 631-point improvement on his qualifying score.
Hovell began with PB’s in hurdles and long jump while he also competed in shot put and high jump before finishing with victory in the 800m.
