Biamou willing to do the dirty work, as Sky Blues gear up for crunch Millers test

A COLLABORATIVE team effort from Coventry City helped earn a deserved three points in Saturday’s crucial 1-0 win over Derby County – says match-winner Maxime Biamou.

The Frenchman netted his fourth Championship goal of the season to help City maintain their six-point cushion between themselves and the final relegation zone spot – currently occupied by Rotherham United who also clinched a victory – and bring Mark Robins’ men closer to that sacred 50-point mark.

With the Sky Blues and the Millers going head-to-head on Saturday, Biamou says the level of performance shown in the win over Wayne Rooney’s Rams must remain the benchmark moving forward.

“You can see if we play our football, we are better than the other teams and that is what we have to do,” said the 30-year-old.

“We know our level and where we are good, so we have to do it, not [like how we played in] the last three games.

“It is a massive win for us and this is the kind of game we had to win if you want to stay in this league.

“Every time I just want to win games, I love the club and I want the club to stay in the Championship because we deserve it, last season we finished first in League One so that is why we have to stay here.”

As far as his role in Coventry’s front line is concerned, Biamou is happy to contribute at the other end of the pitch to help validate his goal-scoring contributions.

He added: “It is hard for strikers to get chances so when we get them, we have to score.

“That is what we have to do, if we want to keep winning games, I cannot just stay up front and wait for the ball.

“We have to work all together as a block and I know at the end if I did it and we win everybody will be happy.

“We need to score goals, I try to manage and do both, I did it well and we won.

“That is why it is important for us to score as soon as possible so at the beginning of the game you are feeling good and fresh and I knew if I got a chance in this kind of game, I have to score.”
