Buoyant Panthers aiming for more success

Stratford Editorial 7th Jun, 2018   0

STRATFORD will look to continue their winning momentum when they entertain Milford Hall at Swans Nest Lane in Birmingham League Division Three on Saturday.

A five-wicket haul from off-spinner James Urquhart helped the Panthers secure a four-wicket win last weekend against visitors Whitchurch to make it four victories from six games this season.

Chris Whelan’s side lie third in the table, 17 points adrift of leaders Rugby and 13 behind Stourbridge.

Having been put into bat, Whitchurch struggled to 121 all out as Stratford’s bowlers cranked up the pressure.

The visitors slipped to 36-3 as Sam Douthwaite and Richard Smith pegged them back before a fourth-wicket stand between Salim Ahmed (32) and Ijaz Yousaf (29) halted the slide.

The introduction of Urquhart prompted another collapse as four wickets fell for two runs.

Urquhart led the bowling with 5-29 off 13.5 overs but there were also good contributions from Douthwaite (2-31), Smith (1-20), Dexter Purser (1-31) and Gareth Langman (1-4).

Opener Purser then stroked seven boundaries in an innings of 49 off 52 balls to see Stratford on the way to a four-wicket win which was completed by an unbeaten 29 from skipper Whelan.
