MANAGER Mark Robins says lessons were there to be learnt in Coventry City’s 2-0 FA Cup exit at Norwich City last weekend.

Despite dominating the share of chances at Carrow Road, the Sky Blues found themselves on the losing end of the third round tie to crash out at the first hurdle, though a first appearance in City colours for Barnsley loanee Matty James at least gave the Coventry boss a positive to take during the the final 20 minutes of the Norfolk outing.

Ultimately, two goals in the space of a minute from Kenny McLean and Jordan Hugill put the game out of City’s sight after just seven minutes played, but Coventry will take heart from the way in which they imposed themselves on proceedings from there on in.

“We had a couple of really good chances before they scored,” Robins said.

“We were really on top in that period and then they got a goal out of nothing.

“They got into a position where we found it difficult to try and win the ball back and we were starting to get a little bit ragged. We defended pretty well, but in an attacking sense it took some reorganisation to try and get a foothold in the game which we did.

“We had four or five really good clear chances where we didn’t manage to work the ‘keeper and that’s the story of the game.

“It’s disappointing to go out, but in terms of what we’ve faced there’s a lot of learning we can take from the game for everybody.

“Matty has got really good quality, and when he’s got his feet under the table he’s going to be a really good addition.”

And with defender Leo Skiri Ostigard also remaining upbeat in the aftermath of City’s cup exit, all signs point to continued upwards momentum when the Sky Blues resume Championship action at home to Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday.

“We just try to play good football and we know that we can create chances against the best team in the league – so that is a good point to take [away],” he added.
