SPORT-MAD Dave Wright has won the 2019 Millennium Scroll award for best administrator in the Wildmoor Tennis League.

Dave, team captain of Division Four’s Warwickshire County Council Tennis Club, was chosen for the accolade by league secretary Corin Bishop.

Dave, the eldest of three children, was born in 1955 in Kingston upon Thames and as a young child lived a short distance from the All England Club in Wimbledon. At senior school he went on to play in the same football team as Steve Finnieston who later went on to play for Chelsea.

Dave moved to Kenilworth via Dunstable in 1969, following his father who was in the motor industry, and joined Warwickshire County Council in 1973 before later moving on to the Civil Service.

He has been retired nine years and has a daughter Melissa and granddaughter Isla, aged 11 months.

Corin said of Dave’s award: “As a sportsman, Dave played football, cricket and hockey, as well as tennis currently for Warwickshire County Council.

“He has held various positions within the club including chairman, social secretary and club tournament organiser, as well as men’s captain.

“His record this year and in previous years as the team’s captain/contact has been impeccable and he is thoroughly deserving of this award.”
