Club's celebrations get into top gear

THE FORMER chief of world cycling, Brian Cookson OBE, helped Stratford Cycling Club celebrate their 2019 successes.

Mr Cookson, former chairman of the UCI, was the guest speaker and presented the prizes at the club’s annual awards presentation night to mark a year of outstanding results from members racing across a wide variety of categories.

Mark Hamer collected three awards including best male all-rounder, while Emma Bexson took the female prize.

The club’s juniors were also recognised for their success and dedication, with many finishing in the West Midlands top ten in closed circuit, mountain biking, track and cyclo-cross.




Notable successes were Molly Kostka winning the West Midland U10 cyclo-cross league, Alex Burden and Sam Abbott winning their age categories in the track league, Spencer Corder’s and Lewis Tinsley’s performances in the mountain bike league and Matthew Jordan being selected to join the Regional School of Racing.

Scratch time trials – 1st Mark Hamer; 2nd Martin Millington

Veterans time trials – 1st Mark Hamer; 2nd Pete Ward

Male best all-rounder – 1st Mark Hamer ave 26.8mph; 2nd Martin Millington 25.32mph

Female best all-rounder – 1st Emma Bexson ave 23.37mph; 2nd Dawn Compton 22.18mph

Handicap – 1st Dawn Compton; 2nd Pete Ward

Time trial youth (aged 12-16) – 1st Jonathan Masters

Roadmans time trial – 1st Trevor Acreman; 2nd Michael Spike Warner

Hill Climb – 1st Robin Hughes – Junior; 2nd Johann Breytenbach

Road racing – Keith Walton

Most improved male – Carl Matthews

Most improved female – Victoria Jeffs

Clubman of the year – Mike Jaye

JUNIOR TROPHIES:

U6/8/10/12 endeavour – Katie Groves

U14/16 endeavour – Lucy Sartain

Best cyclo-cross female rider in league – Molly Kostka

Best cyclo-cross male rider in league – Jefferson Tear-Verweij

Most improved junior – Lewis Tinsley

Robert Heenan Memorial Award for most outstanding junior – Matthew Jordan
