Corder claims brilliant victory

Stratford Editorial 8th May, 2017   0

STRATFORD Cycling Club’s Spencer Corder produced a superb performance to claim victory in the West Midlands Youth League race at Shrewsbury.

Corder has had a frustrating start to the season in being edged out of first place on several occasions in tight sprint finishes in which he is not always the fastest sprinter in those last few yards.

What he is outstanding at is, given the slightest opportunity, he leaves everyone for dead and attacks well before the end of the race.

It seems his rivals are not up to long fast finishes and, once again, after attacking on the seventh of ten laps at Shrewsbury nobody could bring him back.

Corder secured victory by 28 seconds in the boys’ under 12 race.

On this occasion he was followed home by team-mates Lewis Tinsley (4th), Alex Burden (11th), Mathew Jordan (13th), Joshua Barlow (14th) and Ben Machin (15th).

In the girls’ under ten race Zoe Parker continued her great start to the season with third place, while Tom Charles had to settle for 22nd in the under 14 race and David Hird 16th in the under 16 event.

This weekend Stratford CC members compete in the next round of the West Midlands Youth League at the fabulous Stourport purpose-built stadium.
