Expanding karate club celebrates huge grading

Stratford Editorial 30th Jul, 2014 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

STRATFORD Leisure Centre recently played host to around 200 martial artists – all keen to take their next grading with chief instructor Master Johnson, 6th Dan.

Members of Johnson’s Family Karate turned up with their teachers from classes all over the United Kingdom and a big turnout from the senior grades ensured the day went to plan, with passes at all grades from yellow belt through to 1st Dan.

The event began at a frenetic pace with Master Johnson pushing the Gup grades for their Katas (forms).

After going through the forms the day moved on to the sparring and some fabulous exhibitions of semi-contact sparring.

The quality was top drawer and an absolute credit to all the Master Grades who had conditioned their students in the previous months for a challenging day.

Once the sparring was completed, a session on grabbing techniques and defending attacks was asked for, with all the students coming through with flying colours.

The day finished off with some questions about the overall history of karate which has been handed down the generations from grand master Gichin Funakoshi who brought karate to the rest of the world from the Japanese island of Okinawa.

A big mention for Rachel Griffiths-Johnson who had record passes for her Stratford classes, while the new clubs from Warwick, Leamington, Bidford and Chipping Campden had top results based on the fact they are still growing, albeit at a tremendous rate.

Summer classes are starting at Bishopton Community Centre in Stratford where there will be classes for children of all ages from Monday, August 4 all the way through the week to Friday 8. Classes run between 10am and noon every day and details are available from Rachel Johnson on 07930 171504.

Johnson’s Family Karate is open to any age and is great for families to enjoy together.
