Footman double books Henley's quarter-final place

Stratford Editorial 19th Dec, 2019   0

ALEX Footman netted twice to help Henley Forest of Arden sweep aside Bretforton Old Boys and progress into the quarter-finals of the Stratford Alliance Nursing Home Cup.

The Division One hosts had too much for the Division Two table-toppers to win 4-0 at Henley Memorial Sports Ground.

Footman hit the first on 25 minutes but Henley had to wait until the hour mark for the second when Daneil Hagyard converted.

Thomas Haley slotted home a penalty with 15 minutes to go before Footman rounded off the scoring five minutes later.

Henley will face either GSH United or FC Stratford Town, whose tie was postponed.

Only one other Nursing Home Cup tie beat the weather, with Shipston Excelsior Colts setting up a last eight clash with Redditch Borough or Tysoe United after a 6-3 home win against FISSC Reserves.

Stan Dube was the Colts’ hero, bagging four goals, while substitutes Jamie Haines and George Redshaw also got on the scoresheet.

Connor Griffiths struck twice for FISSC, with Richard Foreman the other scorer.

This Saturday (2pm), Division One leaders GSH entertain second-placed South Redditch Athletic in the match of the day, with just one point separating the sides.

If that ends as a draw, then Henley can leapfrog both teams to take the Christmas number one spot if they defeat visitors AFC Stratford.

Fourth-placed Claverdon, who have games in hand on the teams above them, head to Central Ajax Reserves.

In Division Two, table-toppers Bretforton face second-placed visitors Shipston Colts in another potential festive cracker.
