STRATFORD Athletic Club’s Jack Sumners is one of the top ranked young athletes in the UK and this was recognised by him being crowned Junior Sportsperson of the Year at the 2017 Coventry & Warwickshire Sports Awards.
His very high level of consistency and technical ability in the hurdles and long jump has been superb in a fantastically successful year.
Apart from achieving international recognition with England, culminating in him winning the under 18 110m hurdles silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas, Sumners has won 15 medals at county, regional, national and international level.
After receiving the award, Sumners said: “It’s a great honour to win this award. It’s been such a long, hard fought and successful season, but it’s moments like this that make all the hard work worth it.”
