STRATFORD & District Boxing Academy began its season in sensational style with an international victory for 16-year-old Miriam Zouhou.
Miriam travelled to Denmark with head coach Mat Pickering to compete in the Haslev Box Cup 2015 in the Youth 48kg division, along with her team-mates from the Midlands Female Squad.
Miriam fought Niamh Cathy of St Brigid’s ABC of Ireland in the final and, even though this was only Miriam’s fourth bout compared to her opponent’s 30-fight history which includes being crowned Irish national champion, Miriam emerged a unanimous victor following a stunning display of boxing.
At the end of the tournament Miriam was named Boxer of the Tournament, which was an outstanding achievement as she was deemed the most impressive from more than 70 bouts during the weekend.
Her coach Pickering said: “Miriam lived up to her name the Zouhou Warrior in a hard fought bout where her foot and hand speed and in and out movements secured her victory against a very game opponent.
“As head coach, this is one of my best achievements to date and everyone at the club is very proud of her.”
The Midlands Female Squad sent five boxers to the competition and came home with four gold medals.
Stratford & District Boxing Academy is looking for sponsors to help take the club to the next level in this very competitive sport. If any individuals or companies are interested in sponsoring the club please call Mat on 07869 459802 to discuss further.
