More fun on the water awaits

NOT content with one regatta and last week’s River Festival, the River Avon will again host another event this Saturday as Stratford Boat Club’s Fun Regatta takes centre stage.

Paul Hazelwood, Stratford Boat Club’s joint Fun Regatta organiser, said: “The Stratford Boat Club Fun Regatta is a great community event where Stratford Boat Club takes crews from the local area, give them a boat, a coach, a cox, three hours’ tuition and a great mini regatta!

“The course is from the ferry to the boat club – guaranteed thrills and spills! It’s not unknown to see a sinking or two!”

The Fun Regatta starts around 10am and continues until 4.30pm and there is great viewing from the Recreation Ground, Theatre Terrace, Bancroft Gardens, Tramway Bridge and especially the boat club grounds.

There will be a barbecue, tea tent and beer tent all day in the club grounds and parking in the adjacent Recreation Ground car parks.

“Some of the local teams this year include President Kennedy School, Coventry; The Royal Life Saving Society, Broom; Focus Solutions, Leamington Spa; St Benedict’s Catholic High School, Alcester; Blythe Liggins Solicitors, Leamington Spa; F Parr Ltd, Redditch; Tyack Architects Ltd, Moreton in Marsh; and Rother House Medical Centre, Stratford.

Nigel Harwood, joint Fun Regatta organiser, said. “It’s really about fun and it is also a great event for team building and camaraderie. Often we find that crews that take part get the bug and continue on to our Explore Rowing course here at Stratford.”
