More success for jubilant Jo

STRATFORD Triathlon Club’s Jo Young was “thrilled” to win her age group at Sunday’s Arden Attack Duathlon on Sunday, proving her successes from last year were no fluke.

Set at the Heart of England Forest’s site at Middle Spernall, Warwickshire, this is a new local event.

Andy Smith, first home from the STC contingent, said of the race: “We arrived at race HQ a little disappointed that it was in the farm opposite Purity brewery, as the race might have hurt less if I’d had a few pints first!

“The weather was good though and spring was showing. We started with a 5km off-road run through wet and muddy fields and woods. The hills and lack of traction made it a tough run before getting through transition and on to the 18km bike ride.

“For a bike course that was a loop we seemed to always be climbing! The bike leg went well and was soon over before starting a 3km run over some of the same course, albeit a shortened version, as the 5km run.

“This was a tough run and staying upright was a challenge. It was nice to finish the first race of season and I enjoyed the race.”

Stratford Tri Club successes did not end there with Mike Barrett second home for the club in a hugely impressive 1:35:05, giving him second place in his M60+ age group.

Andy Brown, competing in the M50+ category, was not far behind in 1:38:42 and will be working on his bike skills over the coming months. Nonetheless, a second place in his age group was a well earned reward on the day.
