New season starts with victory for Spencer

Stratford Editorial 29th Mar, 2017   0

THERE were seven Stratford Cycling Club members in action in the U12s race in the new Midlands Circuit Championship, including Spencer Corder who claimed an impressive victory.

The competition was held at the purpose-built Stourport venue and attracted guest riders from all over Wales, which made for a tough and exciting event.

Welsh U12 mountain bike and cyclo-cross champion Emyr Truelove was first over the line but, as a guest, he is not in line for the Midlands Championship.

He provided much-needed competition for Corder who was next to finish to score maximum points.

Alex Burden was second and Lewis Tinsley sixth in the West Midlands rankings. They were followed by Ben Machin 19th, Noah Harvey 24th and Joe Green 26th. Jessica Marcroft was tenth in the girls’ section.

Not to be outdone, Zoe Parker won the girls’ U10 event and Samuel Abbott was 11th in the boys’ race.

In the U14 boys’ event, Baden Green was tenth and Tom Charles 21st.

Jess O’Riley was pleased to finish second as a junior in her event and will be looking for victory next time.

Meanwhile, Stratford’s seniors got their season off to a promising start in the Malvern Open 10-mile Time Trial.

Nick Green recorded 22mins, 57secs, Martin Millington 23.23, Mick Stallard 23.35, Stephen Eggleton 24.57, Adrian Osborn 25.21 and U14 Baden Green 26.24.
