Rose proud of reaching landmark for Sky Blues - after shutting out Hornets on injury return

DEFENDER Michael Rose says Coventry City showed their quality to keep Championship promotion contenders Watford at bay, in last weekend’s goalless draw.

Though the Sky Blues dropped to 19th in the table, they move three points clear of the drop zone – with four of the five sides below them falling to defeat – thanks to their tenth draw of the season.

Assessing City’s showing at St Andrew’s, the 25-year-old felt the hosts were good value for a point, and showed enough to suggest that they could have snatched a victory over the Hornets.

“It was good clean sheet and something for us to build on,” said the Scot.

“There were a lot of chances in the game, and on another day, we probably win the game.

“At this level, three points would have been big. I thought we were solid and the whole team in general had that composure when we won the ball back as well.

“They have got [Troy] Deeney and [Ismaila] Sarr up front, so it shows you the level that they are at. We kept them to one or two chances in the second half that we maybe could have done better with.”

It was a landmark outing for the Aberdeen native, considering it was his 50th appearance for the club in all competitions since making the move from Ayr United in 2019.

Making his first 90-minute spell since November after recovering from a groin injury, Rose added: “It was nice to get a full game, it’s been a pretty hard six or seven weeks to be honest and it has been a stop-start season for me.

“I thought I had a pretty solid game, there are always things you can improve on and look at.

“I am proud of reaching this number of appearances at Coventry, it has been a very enjoyable 50 games.

“I’m loving it down here, working with the manager and the group of boys, I’m just really enjoying my football.”

With no midweek fixture, City are on the road next weekend against 14th-placed Cardiff City.
