ROWING - Stratford impress in blistering heat at Stourport

Stratford Editorial 18th Aug, 2022   0

STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club enjoyed success at Stourport Boat Club’s annual regatta as several of the club’s rowers claimed wins in blistering conditions.

The club’s WJ13 coxed quadruple scull of Bryony Francis, Isla Dunn, Martha Cooke, Sophie Franklin and Josephine Cooper (coxswain) rowed up to J14 level against Stourport Boat Club on their home water and sculled superbly to take the win with a dominant display of junior sculling.

That came after Millie Smith and Becca Smith were beaten by three lengths in the WJ13 double sculls final against a quality outfit from AB Severn over the 650m course down the River Severn.

The pair reached the showpiece race after claiming a thrilling win by three quarters of a length over Trent Boat Club earlier in the day.

Millie then took part in the WJ13 single sculls event as she came up short against a sculler from Evesham before Isla took revenge by beating the same opponent to reach the final.

She came up against AB Severn in the final, who defeated Sophie Franklin after a plucky row from the young sculler in the semi-final.

And despite Isla’s best efforts, the AB Severn sculler crossed the line with Stratford’s bows nipping at their stern.

Stratford finished the day in style as the second WJ13 coxed quadruple scull of Becca, Cara Berisford-Murray, Josephine, Martha and Bryony (coxswain) raced to victory by one length in a straight final against Trent Boat Club.

And Stratford’s Masters also claimed victory as the 2x of Suzie Radley and Amanda Bowden won a straight final whilst the 4x crew had a solid row improving on the performance at the previous regatta.
